Three of our Year 9 students – Hannah Yeoman, Kate Edwardson and Emma Jardine, attended the W.I.S.D.O.M. event and had an inspiring evening to say the least. Although not an in-school event, the impact this has had on their drive to pursue their knowledge of Maths will ultimately impact on their success at GCSE and their future careers.

Hannah Yeoman –

“It was an inspiring experience that allowed me to think about my future. From the experience at WISDOM I now want to continue Maths after school. The talks by the women at the university were amazing ! I realised how many opportunities I could have if  continue Maths after high school. There are so many jobs which I never would have thought involved Maths. The lecture by a lady who helped predict what would happen during the outbreak of foot and mouth disease really made me consider how important women are to Maths and Science. WISDOM is definitely something  that I would want to do again as it was one of the most inspiring and amazing things I have done. It was definitely worth it

Kate Edwardson-

“The whole experience was engaging and provoked my thoughts and ideas – How could I affect the world for the better by using Maths? We met inspirational women who are a huge part of space discovery, and preventing diseases (that had the risk of killing thousands of lives), which made me think about how many doors Maths can open and how positively these women have impacted our world. This event has also inspired me to take Maths further, and explore what I can do to my full potential.”

Emma Jardine –

“It was different to what I expected in a good way. There was useful information about what life is like as a Maths Student in University and talks from people who have a career in Maths. It made me realise that there are so many different things you can do in the future if you take Maths further than GCSE.”
