At Marden High we encourage curiosity and develop transferable skills for lifelong learning. One of the ways in which we do this is through a committed extra-curricular programme.
In January 2020 we trialled a wellbeing day for Year 7 which was a great success. The day was a ‘Try Something Different Day’, in which the year group were encouraged to learn and develop new skills related to improving their mental health and wellbeing. For 2021 we are planning a similar day for each Year group; focusing on areas most pertinent to their development.
Marden High School offers a wealth of extra-curricular activities both at lunchtime and after school. The LRC is a real hub, where students can study before (from 8.00am) and after school as well as at breaks and lunchtimes. The ‘homework hub’ runs every afternoon from 3.15pm where students can complete homework.
A range of sporting activities are on offer, including Netball, Football, Rugby, Badminton and Dance. Our thriving Performing Arts base runs a variety of clubs including Super Singers, Orchestra, Ukulele and Choir and a large production, each year, such as ‘Bugsy Malone’ (2018), ‘Grease’ (2019) and ‘We Will Rock You’ (2020).
In Summer 2021 Year 10 and Year 7 students took part in a bespoke strength and conditioning course in order to improve their fitness.
Students have the opportunity to take part in creative writing, debating, enterprise clubs and can become members of the School Cabinet and Council, in addition to a wide variety of activities.
