This week, the Marden kitchen is being taken over by the students, as Year 7 and Year 8 students join forces with a different teacher every day to produce a unique new menu.
FRIDAY
For the final day of this week’s Food Takeover Challenge, our Bursar Mr. Hedworth and his team are already in the kitchen, preparing their heavily publicised pasta dish and cheesecake dessert…
THURSDAY
Competition is hotting up in the kitchen this week; three quality menus have been served already, and staff and students alike have been enjoying the competitive spirit and unique lunchtime opportunities. Thursday was the turn of headteacher Mr. Morris and his team of Year 7 and 8 students, as they prepared home made burgers – even attempting to make their own buns!
WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, Mr. Swain stepped in for Mrs. Bloomfield and created a lasagne main course with profiteroles for dessert. Here he is prepping his team in the kitchen…
…and here they are hard at work…
TUESDAY
Tuesday it was the turn of Deputy Head Mr. Jamieson, who is preparing a chicken and chorizo based lunch, and his team are already in action, working through the tears to chop onions in the kitchen…
MONDAY
On Monday, it was the turn of PE teacher Mr. Whitehouse and his team of Jake, Lewis, Alisa and Hannah.
They prepared beef, turkey and lamb kebabs with pitta bread, complimented with sweet potatoes, coleslaw and corn on the cob. The pudding was a twist on the famous Eton Mess; Marden Mess served in wine glasses.
After slaving in the kitchen all morning, ‘Team Whitehouse’ had to produce 15 portions to serve up to hungry students, who then marked their efforts for taste, presentation and service.
At the end of the week, we will total up the figures and see which team is crowned Marden Takeover Champion. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the week…
