The under 14 basketball team got off to a flying start in the league on Monday night, winning both of their games against Whitley Bay and Churchill High respectively.
Churchill were unable to reply top our first 24 points, shared between Mark Butcher, Callum Foxton, Michael Wood, Ross Alexander, Theo Riley (Year 8), James Grey, Adam Clayton, Lewis Rathmall (Year 8) and Kieron Mooney. They ran out comfortable 28-2 winners.
In Whitley Bay High, we faced the perennial North Tyneside victors at this level, going behind early on. Marden fought back well to level the scores, and in an end and end battle it came down to Marden being one point up with one minute left on the clock. Whitley went down court and with 30 seconds to go scored to go one point ahead. However, our never say die attitude enabled us to break left court with Theo Riley, who swooshed a jump shot from the 3-point line for a famous victory.
With these victories they will now represent North Tyneside in the Tyne and Wear Cup at U14 level. Well done boys!
The U16s will play Monkseaton and Whitley Bay on Wednesday 19th December as they look to emulate their Year 9 counterparts.
