2012 has proved to be a historic year for Marden High School.
Not only have we gained funding for a brand new building and celebrated our 50th birthday, but we have also achieved the highest exam grades in our history.
New headteacher, Jonathan Morris, is justifiably proud of so much success over the past year: “Our headline figure is 73% 5+ A*-C with English and Maths. We have improved in every aspect of our results thanks to the hard work of our students and the 100% commitment of our excellent staff. There has been a surge in the number of A grades and some of our subjects, such as Maths and Science, have performed stunningly.”
However, like most secondary schools, Marden has been adversely affected by the unfair national reduction in English grades: “Had it not been for the last minute external interference with the grading of GCSE English, our headline figure would have been at least 82% 5+ A*-C with English and Maths. This disappointment was beyond our control, but we are determined to stay positive and to break records again in 2013!”
