The SEND department, located in the Base, is led by Mrs Reece with support from Mrs Thompson and 13 SEND support assistants.

Mrs Thompson

The team has a wide range of qualifications and experience in supporting students in lessons, small groups and 1:1. The diversity of knowledge and experience including ASD, Sensory Impairment, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Social and Emotional Mental Health and Language and Communication Learning Difficulties allows for personalised provision and ensures that students are well supported at all times; this allows them to reach their full potential during their time at Marden.

Students have access to differentiated resources, specialist programmes and IT equipment. SEND staff are available at the beginning of the day delivering literacy/numeracy intervention and at the end of each day to support students in homework club and extracurricular activities.

Care for students with medical conditions (eg Diabetes) or those requiring medication is also provided by fully trained staff.

Counselling services are provided 3 days a week by Someone Cares. They use a designated room in the SEND department to meet discreetly with students identified as requiring additional support. School also offers Drawing and Talking sessions,Thrive sessions and the opportunity for informal chats with students to help them overcome issues they may be experiencing.
