Our first full proper day in New York was jam packed, as we caught the subway early to get on the ferry to Liberty island and see the big lady herself…

There was then time for reflection, as we walked to the location of Ground Zero and took in the 9/11 memorial park in the shadow of World Trade Center 1, where two large fountains stand in the footprints of the twin towers. This commemorates the nearly 3000 people who lost their lives on 11th September 2001.

A walk down Wall Street through the financial district then took us to South Street Sea Port, where we had lunch and looked around Pier 17, an area that was devastated exactly one year ago today by Hurricane Sandy. We then returned to Times Square for a small round of shopping…

…before an early evening meal in Bubba Gumps, the Media students taking particular interest in this ‘Forrest Gump’ themed restaurant.

Then, as if that were not enough for the day, we took a bus tour around New York, stopping off on our way to see the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and Grand Central Terminal as well as getting out at Brooklyn and looking back across at the majestic Manhattan skyline at night.

This morning we are off to sample the wonderful views from the top of the Rock, the Rockefeller building off 5th Avenue.
