Marden High continues to go from strength to strength in our sporting endeavours, as two of our Year 9 students secured a runner-up spot in the Under 14 North Tyneside Badminton Doubles Competition!
Congratulations to our Year 11 girls; both Doubles teams reached the final of the North Tyneside U16 Girls Badminton Doubles Competition, therefore securing the Championship and Runner-Up spot.
Well done girls!
Last night Marden’s successful badminton teams once again excelled themselves, winning two out of three matches, and all three teams have qualified to represent North Tyneside in the Tyne & Wear Championships.
Congratulations to Isabelle Hutchins of Year 7, who at the weekend competed at the 2017 British Open ITF Taekwondo Championships in Crawley.
Belle won a silver medal for sparring against competitors from England,
Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal and Norway.
Well done Belle!
Massive congratulations are due to Eve McArdle and Amy Middleton, both in Year 7, who have medalled in the recent Taekwondo November Championships at the Walker Activity Dome.
Eve won two Golds in the 9 – 11 category, including an award for Special Technique, whilst Amy won a Bronze and a Silver in the 15-18 category, a tremendous achievement fighting against girls above her age group.
Well done girls. Kick on!

Marden 4-4 Churchill
The U15s served up a thrilling match at home to Chuchill, with a last minute equaliser saving a point and maintaining an unbeaten start to their season.
Missing Josh Harrison, who had scored 5 of their 6 goals against George Stephenson a fortnight earlier, the Year 10 team went 1-0 down after 7 minutes as the away side started stronger.
They hit back in a pulsating first half, stand-in striker Reece Maddison equalising after 15 minutes with a close range volley, and Owen Kennedy hitting a long ranger into the bottom corner 20 minutes in.
The lead lasted just three minutes, as a smart volley from Churchill levelled it up at 2-2 with a well taken half-volley, but Marden took a 3-2 lead into the break when Maddison got his second of the game just two minutes before the break.
Churchill ramped up the pressure in the second half, dominating long periods as they shot downhill, and it took them just 5 minutes to square it up again at 3-3. A fourth was denied them by goalkeeper Matthew Penman as he tipped a shot onto the bar, and after rattling the post their pressure finally resulted in taking a 4-3 lead halfway through the second half.
As Marden piled forward in search of an equaliser with just a couple of minutes to go, a half cleared corner fell to debutant central defender Aidan Rowan, who placed his shot cooly into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to earn a draw.
Well done to all who took part for their attitude, work rate and teamwork.

Year 10: Marden High 6-1 George Stephenson
The Year 10 boys got off to an excellent start to their campaign with an impressive 6-1 victory over George Stephenson, although the result somewhat flattered the hosts who were tested throughout by a resilient George Stephenson team.
A first half hat-trick from Josh Harrison and a strike from Reece Maddison put Marden 4-0 up at half time before a consolation from the away side. Matthew Penman also saved a penalty and tipped another effort onto the bar to halt any sign of a fightback, and Harrison added two more late on to complete the rout.
Year 8: Marden Bridge 1-2 Marden High
The year 8s were impressive on the astroturf against a tough Marden Bridge team, Leon Bell grabbing both the goals in a win against a side that had comprehensively beaten them last season.
Coach Mr Richards was delighted with the graft, attitude and commitment of all involved.
