On Tuesday last week we had our very first House TV quiz! The focus of our quiz this week was Geography! Students took on three segments starting with segment one ‘The Drop’ seeing students guess the continent from the clues after being dropped into Google Earth street view.

Alnwick and Warkworth were in for a strong start, both gaining a host of points with Alnwick in the lead, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh had catching up to do. Segment two looked at students trying to pick infamous landmarks from blurry images, again a strong start from Alwick, but points were claimed by Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh.

Going into the final round Alnwick had a strong lead with Warkworth in second followed by a tied Dunstanburgh and Alnwick. The final round was the local challenge and saw Mr. Jilley take off around the school to three different locations with a point scored by Warkworth early on, but the rest of the points mopped up by Alnwick.

A dominant performance by Alnwick saw them claim the first ever Marden House Quiz and 100 extra points for their House. Whilst the house captains battled it out in the classroom, form groups attempted to be the quickest to send in their answers with the fastest form being Mrs Mannion’s who has distributed her 100 house points amongst the four houses.

Today, our Year 10 students took part in an exciting and interactive session delivered by the Natural Gas team. Students explored the fascinating world of hydrogen fuel cells and learned about their real-world applications in sustainable energy and transportation.

The session also gave students the opportunity to see model cars in action, helping them understand how fuel cell technology works in a fun and engaging way. A fantastic hands-on experience that inspired curiosity, innovation, and learning in STEM!

TyneMet are hosting their Try it Out Workshops on Thursday 23rd April from 4:00pm-5:30pm (or on Tuesday 21^st April from 4:00-5:30pm for Beauty Therapy).

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain an insight into Tyne Met College and participate in a hands-on workshop. Students will have the chance to meet the tutors and ask any questions they may have.

This is open to all students whether they have already applied to Tyne Met College or are considering applying to the college.

This week, in RE lessons, students took part in a special initiative known as Prayer Space, providing them with a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and explore some of life’s big questions.

Prayer spaces, which have become increasingly popular in schools across the UK, offer pupils a safe and creative environment to engage with their thoughts and feelings.

The purpose of Prayer Space is to allow young people to take a moment away from the usual
business of school life, creating space for personal reflection. During their visit, students participated in interactive activities designed to help them think deeply about themes such as hope, gratitude, identity, and purpose. Whether they chose to write, draw, or simply sit quietly, every activity was designed to encourage personal connection and mindfulness.

Last week, our Year 10 students took part in an exciting careers-focused drop-down day: Represent Roadshow. The event brought together eight interactive workshops designed to help students understand how to present the best version of themselves to future employers and education providers.
