OFSTED has officially confirmed the remarkable improvement of Marden High School.
Only two years ago the government watchdog judged Marden to be satisfactory. Now, however, as well as achieving the highest ever 5A*-C GCSE results in North Tyneside in 2013, the school has been rated as good with outstanding features, with leadership and behaviour being awarded the best possible grades.
The inspection report gives high praise to what Marden has achieved, stating:
“Good and often outstanding teaching ensures that students from all starting points make rapid progress and achieve well…. The most able students achieve highly, with attainment at A* to A grade significantly above the national average.”
Headteacher Jonathan Morris, is justifiably proud of this success:
“If you read the report, you can tell that the inspectors were amazed by the surge in standards at Marden. They also said that the school is well placed to improve even further!”
From Monday the 1st of July all year 8 students moving into year 9 will be required to bring a reading book to school with them everyday.
It is our aim that all students should have the chance to read for at least 20 minutes per day and reading for pleasure should be encouraged at every opportunity.
This means that a reading book is a vital piece of equipment and should be placed on desks along with their handbook and writing material at the start of every lesson.
We know that students who read are students who succeed and instilling a lifelong love of literacy is important to us all.
Students are also permitted to read ebooks on portable and handheld devices as per our acceptable use policy.
Please see the LRC section of the website for new releases, borrowing procedures and opening times.
Thank you
The Science Department would like to inform parents of Year 10 Additional Science students of the following:
On March 27th the students will complete a science practical task and two written exam papers. They need to prepare for this day of assessment by using internet research to compare two websites which outline a method for the practical. The websites and other advice will be given to students on Friday, 22nd March. Candidate research forms must be returned to school on Monday, 25th March.
