A presentation from St. Anne’s College in Oxford was very well attended this morning, as Year 9, 10 and 11 learned all about university; from applying and studying to the cost and requirements.
Last Monday students around the school were introduced to the beauty of pi (π) as part of Pi Day celebrations. The 14th March is dedicated to Pi, as it is the 3rd month and the 14th day – 3.14 being the start of the number of Pi.
Students were shown some of the artwork that has been inspired by the number and examples of text written in Pilish; a literary form based on the digits of Pi.
The students themselves have been challenged to create something inspired by the number, which is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. So far entries have included some geometric artwork and a tasty looking fruit pie.
Newcastle United footballer Isaac Hayden visited school on Wednesday and gave students a motivational speech. He stayed all afternoon to take part in a Q&A and sign autographs. Have a look at some of the photos and footage in this video montage!
Isaac will be donating a set of five-a-side goals to the school, and the student ambassadors who showed him round were a real credit to Marden High!
Our Year 7 netball team put on an impressive display to be crowned North Tyneside champions this week, winning an incredible 8 and drawing 1 of their 9 matches as they swept to victory.
Well done to the team who go through to represent the county at the next stage!
This week Year 10 Chemistry students completed a required practical on Rates of Reactions. They were measuring the volume of gas produced when Hydrochloric acid reacts with Magnesium.
Students have been encouraged to add these pictures to their Global bridge profile as evidence of working scientifically, collecting data and a working in team.
