Applications are now open for Northumbria Police Cadets three-year scheme.
The Northumbria Police cadet scheme is a three-year programme open to students in Year 10, where young people work alongside serving police officers, see behind the scenes of stations and get involved with their local community.
They meet weekly and will be trained in a new subject, from learning the basics of the law to practical first aid skills.
Cadets get involved with high profile local events too – and could find themselves lending a hand along the route of the Great North Run, joining thousands of others in marching at a Pride event or doing a meet and greet at Sunderland Air Show.
Joining the cadets is a chance for young people to find out their strengths, make a whole new set of friends and find a sense of independence.
They can also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh paid for by the police.
Applications are open now until 31 October. Find out more and apply now at:

To celebrate National Poetry Day, Year 11 students have been working their own compositions, based on the theme of choice.
The two top sets then faced off against each other in a poetry slam; pitted against one another at random, they performed their poetry in a rematch of last year’s competition.
It was a fantastic contest with each student producing brilliant and thought provoking poetry, interpreting the theme in many unique and original ways. As revenge for last year’s defeat, Mrs Cathcart’s class took the crown this time from Mr Horn’s students.
All week, members of staff have been displaying their favourite poems on doors of their classroom to celebrate the event.
The Year 11 students intend to publish their poetry in an anthology. Well done to all who took part!
Year 7 Music lessons included coming up with their own percussion based musical composition, using different sounds and rhythms. Then they performed their own version of STOMP!
On Monday it was great to see the Year 7 boys participating in after-school training for the boys football team. There is going to be stiff competition this year for places!
In the build up to ‘The Big Draw’, Year 9 working on some climate-themed creative work in Art.
A great start to the GCSE course by these Year 10 students; sketchbooks already coming on nicely!
