“Be the Light in the Darkness”
The North Tyneside 2021 Holocaust Memorial Events
Each year in North Tyneside we collectively remember the Holocaust and subsequent genocides, both past and present. Due to the global pandemic this year our events have been created virtually and in line with national guidance. As ever the Holocaust Working group have spent the last year liaising with North Tyneside schools and various other organisations in order to further develop awareness and impact of the Holocaust, and to share the message of this year’s theme “Be the light in the Darkness”.
Holocaust Memorial Day commemorative event
10:00am
Friday 29th January 2021
This event features contributions from the Elected Mayor, Young Mayor and schools across the borough. There is also a keynote presentation from Trevor Avery, curator of the Lake District Holocaust Project, which remembers the story of the child survivors of the Holocaust who arrived in Ambleside in 1945 from Auschwitz.
This event is supported by the attached programme which includes details of some of the organisations who contributed to the ceremony.
In order to access these events please use, this YouTube playlist
The National Holocaust Memorial event took place via, https://www.hmd.org.uk on Wednesday 27th January at 7pm. These recordings will be available to view indefinitely in order to support schools as a teaching material and additional resources may also be found at;

One thing is clear, that by working together in these challenging times we can still keep the flame alive to remember events of the past as well as the present, and in particular the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. We must ensure that stories continue to be shared and the impact of these events are never forgotten. In this way, for all those in despair we can all try to “Be the light in the Darkness”.

With a return to lockdown and remote learning, it’s more important than ever for our community to stay in touch as much as possible, by whatever means we can. Staff at Marden High are once again finding unique ways to maintain our health and happiness, stay connected to our students, and keep learning going.
We hope that these motivational messages show that we are thinking about you all, and we hope to be back together soon. Enjoy!
