Another spectacular World Book Day event is coming soon. This year sees the 20th anniversary of World Book Day, and on Thursday 2nd March we will be participating in a number of activities…just 3 weeks to go!
We have had a variety of sporting successes at Marden recently.
Huge congratulations are due to our Year 9 student Matthew Wood, who last week represented Whitley Bay Warriors at ice hockey in Sheffield.
He has also been selected by the North East to play at conference level.
Well done Matthew!
Massive congratulations to Chris and Finlay, our Year 7 rowing experts who, after qualifying from the North Tyneside event, posted impressive rowing scores at the Tyne and Wear Indoor Rowing Tournament.
Finlay scored a personal best of 495 metres in 2 minutes and finished 3rd overall in the Year 7 category. Chris posted an impressive 482 metres to finish in 4th.
An OARsome achievement, well done boys!

A massive congratulations to Year 7 students Holly Waugh and Josh Blevins, who both qualified from their respective cross country events at the North Tyneside championships at Temple Park, South Shields.
Josh finished 1st in his event and Holly 11th, and they will now go on to represent the county in Carlisle this Saturday 4 February. A tremendous achievement, well done to you both!
An introductory message from our newly appointed Assistant Head, Mr. Anderson:
“I’m really proud to be joining Marden at such an exciting time. I began my career at Walbottle Campus, in the Outer West, where I took on the post of Pastoral Leader before then leading Inclusion until I left in 2013.
I joined Churchill Community College as Leader of Additional Education Needs, before becoming an Associate Assistant Headteacher.
When the opportunity to join Marden as Assistant Head arose, I knew it was an opportunity to help make Marden a world class school, with an etiquette for success that we and the community can all be proud of. As a father of two, I feel kindness, hard work, grit, determination and resilience are all attributes we as adults should hope to instil into the next generation.
As Assistant Headteacher, with a responsibility for Personal Development and Wellbeing, I aim to do this, in collaboration with all parents, carers, and other members of the community, to ensure our students can work with us to ensure Marden High School is an outstanding school and a beacon of good practice in North Tyneside.”
For the attention of all Year 9 students, parents and carers; please read this letter regarding our upcoming Year 9 Options Evening this Thursday. Thank you.
Both the Year 10 girls and the Year 9 boys badminton teams came 2nd in their respective events at the North Tyneside Badminton Championships, and both have qualified for the Tyne and Wear finals!
The girls have been out at work experience this week, but the boys posed for a photo opportunity. Well done to all who took part and good luck at the finals stage.
