St. Thomas More 2 – 4 Marden High
The Year 9 boys football team finally played their first game of the season on Monday night, and despite a depleted squad that was carrying several injuries, they ran out impressive 4-2 winners away to St. Thomas More.
Marden dominated from the beginning but Reece Maddison could not convert an early penalty, the goalkeeper saving after Josh Harrison was fouled in the box. St. Thomas More then missed a penalty of their own after a handball in the box before Harrison hit the bar for Marden.
The home side took the lead before half time against the run of play with a smart finish on the counter attack, but Marden took control in the second half.
Jonny Jordan equalised with a strong first time strike, and Josh Harrison turned the game on its head with a smart finish, before Reece Maddison headed home a Harry Perkins corner for 3-1. Further chances followed, with substitute debutants Max Stanbury and Callum Penn both having shots cleared from the line before Harrison’s individual effort made it 4-1.
The home side pulled one back with a smart volley from a half cleared corner but it was a great result for Marden, who have other games coming soon. Well done to all involved!
Team: Matthew Penman (GK); Harvey Gates, Tom Lea, Cameron Balloch, Adam Dunn; Alex Telpov (Max Stanbury), Harry Perkins, Reece Maddison, Jonny Jordan, Craig Foster (Callum Penn); Josh Harrison.
Goals: Jonny Jordan, Josh Harrison (2), Reece Maddison.
Man of the match: Harry Perkins.

We’d like to thank everyone who voted in the Young Mayor elections. The successful candidate was announced on Friday evening and we’re delighted to say that our Year 8 student Oscar Daniel has been elected the new Young Mayor of North Tyneside!
Well done Oscar!
Josh Blevins and Holly Waugh, both in Year 7, have qualified for the National Cross Country Championships to be held in Loughborough.
Both students came through local and county heats in December and January respectively before representing North Tyneside in Carlisle recently, and both produced fantastic results.
Mr. Whitehouse caught up with Josh and interviewed him about his running success…
