Marden raised over £900 for Children in Need and another £900 for the Robbie Elliott Foundation as they turned Friday 30th November into a Pyjama Party, with students wearing onesies to school.
We have raised £923.23 for the Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer as part of former Newcastle United footballer Robbie Elliott’s Bike for Bobby campaign. Year 11 student Callum, who came up with the idea to get involved with the charity, presented the cheque to Robbie, who came in to give an assembly and thank the school for their fundraising efforts.

Last week’s Takeover Week was a huge success, with Friday especially being a major focus as students swapped roles with teachers – Year 11 Harry Smith was headteacher for the day and students from all years lead PSCHE lessons on Tuesday afternoon as the teachers took a back seat.
They were also heavily involved in looking at the school budget, school dinners, extra curricular activities and sat in on the Friday staff breakfast meeting.
Stay posted for some video footage of the week, and see how the event might change how we do things at Marden now that the students have had a chance to have their say…
Last year some Year 9 students took part in a STEM event at Newcastle University, and the academics were so impressed that the students, now in Year 10, were invited back to give a talk on their research into the effect of commonly found acids in food and tooth enamel. This was part of the Leading Edge project run by Newcastle University and Newcastle City Council.
Over the last 6 weeks Year 7 classes have been taking part in an exciting Robotics event, spending the whole day in the City Learning Centre building programs and competing to see who can come up with the most accurate and sophisticated program to make remote control robots perform certain tasks. Here are some photos of the event.

This year Marden celebrated its 50th anniversary. On the 2nd of May this year, this short video was made to show a typical school day for the staff and students.
It was first shown at the Photography Exhibition that was part of Marden’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on the 8th of July.
