Year 10 Visit St. James’ Park

This year, a group of Year 10 students have been working with Newcastle United Foundation as part of an ASDAN course.

The Enterprise Academy teaches 11 to 19 year-olds the basic principles of business and self-employment using Newcastle United Football Club as a real life case study. The programme helps students understand jobs, professions and career options and delivers programmes that are innovative and fun.

On Friday, as part of this course, the students visited St. James’ Park, took in a stadium tour and had a lesson in an executive suite overlooking the pitch. Here are some photos from the day:

Code Wars 2017

On Saturday Year 11 Computer Science students Daniel Ritchie, George Grainger, Max Bell, Olivia Bishop, Lucy Crossland, Daniel Hornby, Harry Dargavel, Amy Feetham & Dan Mead all attended the 2017 Hewlett Packard Codewars competition.
Code Wars 2017
National coding competition, all 3 teams did fantastic…..George G, Daniel R and Max B came a close 4th!!
Dan, Harry and Amy were the quiz winners, winning a HP rucksack full of goodies. Lucy won the raffle getting a £20 amazon voucher.
Great experience and great day had by all!!

World Book Day 2017

The English department with Year 7 during the World Book Day awards assembly.

The 20th anniversary of World Book Day took place on Thursday, and Marden were active participants as usual. Staff, Year 7 and Year 8 students were invited to dress as a literary character for the day. There was also a lunchtime quiz and Key Stage 3 students took part in literary activities and writing competitions with the English department all day.

In total, £200.30 was raised for BOOK AID. Well done to everyone who took part.

Christmas Activities Coming Up…

Information about our Christmas Activities this week at Marden.

Our Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 15th December will take the form of our usual non-uniform days. £1 for a wristband which will be on sale this week, with proceeds going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

£805.58 raised for Children in Need

Our grand total raised for Children in Need on Friday was £805.58.

£36.57 was raised from the staff cake sale and £96.30 from the students cake sale. Congratulations to Finley Bolas who won the cake raffle and Cameron Hill who guessed correctly that there were 163 spots on the cake.

Medical Career Day Event

A group of Year10 students last week participated in the region’s largest medical career day event organised by MCS Raising Aspirations Group.


Caitlin Thompson and Nieve Allot were prize winners in the Diagnostic workshop and Sajan Mann and Kijah-Star Wardsmith in the CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) workshop.

Well done to all involved.
