In March, five students took part in the event “The Great Languages Bake Off” combining their language, cooking and filmmaking skills. After making a video of themselves creating a dish, in this case an Apfelstrudel and Gateau au chocolat, they went to Sunderland University where they had to give a presentation in front of all the other students taking part.
They were met by the lovely student ambassador Sarah who showed them around and gave them drinks and cake as well as telling them what student life was like. The students did brilliantly with their videos and presentations and had a great time visiting the university.
On Saturday, nine Year 10 GCSE Computer Science students visited Hewlett Packard to compete in Codewars 2016.
They had 23 problems set and they had to work together as 3 teams to code solutions, competing against different schools from the North East.

World Book Day was another superb day at Marden High, with staff and students in fancy dress as their favourite literary characters. There were also creative writing workshops all throughout the day.

On Friday, Miss Davis arranged for students to take part in an assault course to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Year 10 students Chris Robson, Lewis Caswell, Caitlyn McPartlin and Nicole Foster have worked with the Think Physics team over the last few weeks.
They are part of a small team that produced a light wall and kettle pendulum wave that were then exhibited at the Maker Faire on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of April at the Centre for Life.
Marden’s Year 10 Drama students are taking part in an exciting event in early June, the upcoming Electic Iron Festival in Cullercoats.
Students will kick off the weekend event on Thursday 4th June at Cullercoats Crescent Club, performing ‘Fracking in Cullercoats’, a play they have been working on with local writer Peter Mortimer.
Tickets for this event are £6 and available from our finance office, please pay by either cash or cheque. Be sure to look out for other events taking place on Cullercoats Sea Front between Thursday 4th and Sunday 7th June.
