Congratulations to Year 11 student Luca who took part in the Tyneside Night Memory Walk on Saturday 13 October.
Luca and his family were marching for the Alzheimer’s Society, and were part of the many hundreds who took part in the 6.5km walk from Baltic Square on Gateshead Quays and have so far helped raised more than £80,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Well done Luca!
Thanks to all who contributed to our “Wear Red Day” on Friday for the charity Show Racism the Red Card.
Students prepared for the day by attending assemblies delivered by cabinet members, and they learnt more about the issues of racism and discrimination in specially planned PD lessons.
Each October Show Racism The Red Card holds its annual WEAR RED DAY, a national day of action which encourages schools, businesses and individuals to wear red to highlight an ongoing campaign to work with more young people and adults across the UK to challenge racism in society.
All last week, School of Sanctuary students at Marden delivered assemblies preparing students by raising problems of racism and discrimination, and students have been learning more in specially planned PD lessons.
We are taking part this Friday 12th October, encouraging students to wear red for a £1 donation. Click the image for more information on the campaign!
A group of Year 9 students have been working with Ms Griffiths on a “School of Sanctuary” project.
The group’s aims are to promote inclusivity, tolerance and acceptance within Marden High School and the wider community.
Last week they delivered assemblies to all year groups about racism and tolerance.
During our recent “What Makes the Coast Special?” Super Learning Day, Year 7 students were divided into three groups.
Those students working with the Science department focused on how creatures that lived in the sea and on the seashore were adapted for survival. they visited the Blue Reef Aquarium to see live specimens and used personal research on the internet to produce a set of Sea Creature Top Trumps.
The Art department worked with students on the beach producing sand sculptures and then painted sea-scape pictures and the media department took students out to take photographs and film footage which was used to create a short documentary about the North East coastline.
The Media group had an opportunity to explore the coastline and interpret “What Makes the Coast Special” however they wished, through the medium of video and photography. They spent the morning researching ideas and gathering footage, and in the afternoon split into two groups and experimented with some Media software – some used Photoshop to create poster designs using their beach photography and some edited video footage in a variety of genres including news reports, documentaries and experimental video art.
