On the last Wednesday of term the East block of Marden High School was turned into a spectacular light show as we revealed the fantastic work the Year 8 students produced on Super Learning Day last Friday.
MANDERLEY HAS ARRIVED!
Alongside the awesome light show that the Year 8 Science and Art students produced for Super Learning Day, the Media group also produced some excellent experimental Video and Photography work, using the same theme of light and primary colours.
Their brief was to be imaginative and creative with cameras on the school site, and produce a piece of art expressing visual motifs of red, green, blue or all three. Click on the tab below to see some of their work…
Marden High School recently took part in an ambitious project in association with the Children’s Commission’s Takeover Day initiative. Staff and students switched roles, and students had an exclusive insight into how the school is run; joining staff meetings, delivering lessons and taking part in other integral school decisions. It’s been a really successful BBC News Day, here’s some of the feedback from our fabulous Year 8 reporters:
“I have improved on my technical abilities, but I could improve it by managing my time better.” – Josh
“I have learned to work with different people who i don’t normally work with. To improve next time we will try to work quicker and work towards the deadline more prompt. but overall i had a great time working with laura and alicia!!! :)” – Kate
“I enjoyed working in my group and I developed new skills in Media and editing.” – Adam
“I have had lots of FUN!” – Nathan
“I think that I have have learned to improve my group work skills, also I have became more confident speaking-wise. But I do think we need to be more sensible so we don’t have to take as many shots.” – Theo
“We had the greatest time ever. We learned to work more independently since we had a small group and we all pulled fair weight.” – Ceren and Lara
“I have had lots of fun and I’ve learnt tips about journalism I’ve have also improved my team work. I have also given a lot to think about over the Christmas season. I’m looking forward till next time.” – Alex
“I have planned what I was going to do in the day, and I completed what I had to do successfully, and I enjoyed it as much, possibly more than last time. Next time I would make sure I didn’t leave things to the last part of the day, so I’m not rushing!” – David

With the second BBC News Day coming this Wednesday 12th, Marden has already been making the news, with a photo of our last news day chosen as the main image on the BBC’s article of the upcoming event. Our Year 8 students will be reporting on the news as well as reflecting on the impact of our recent Takeover Week and charity fundraising events.
