A big event happened this week.
We saw the first designs of our new school building.
In an exciting two hour meeting, the architects talked us through their initial ideas for a compact, state of the art, 21st century school for 900 pupils with suites of subjects strategically positioned around the campus. But the most important feature was that they had listened to our “design drivers”. We told them that we wanted a modern environment but that the essential components of the Marden DNA were not for sale: Carpe Diem, teaching and learning come first, everyone matters…you know the kind of thing. And it was thrilling to see that they were all there, but even better than they are now. So in September 2016 we will open the doors to brand new facilities, containing far superior opportunities for academic study and ( here’s the big point) fully integrated provision for technology, sport and the arts so that the extracurricular life of the school will flourish even more.
Thursday 6th March is World Book Day, and as part of OXFAM’s Message in a Book Appeal we are asking all students to bring an unwanted book to school next week to donate.
You might have seen press reports about a national one day strike called by the National Union of Teachers on Wednesday March 26,2014.
Marden High School will be open to pupils as usual on this day.
University Explained is a joint event between Newcastle University, Northumbria University and the University of Sunderland and can help you to support your son or daughter in the decisions they will have to make regarding university. The event will provide relevant information about Higher Education, as well as each individual institution and explain where to look for further details.
OFSTED has officially confirmed the remarkable improvement of Marden High School.
Only two years ago the government watchdog judged Marden to be satisfactory. Now, however, as well as achieving the highest ever 5A*-C GCSE results in North Tyneside in 2013, the school has been rated as good with outstanding features, with leadership and behaviour being awarded the best possible grades.
The inspection report gives high praise to what Marden has achieved, stating:
“Good and often outstanding teaching ensures that students from all starting points make rapid progress and achieve well…. The most able students achieve highly, with attainment at A* to A grade significantly above the national average.”
Headteacher Jonathan Morris, is justifiably proud of this success:
“If you read the report, you can tell that the inspectors were amazed by the surge in standards at Marden. They also said that the school is well placed to improve even further!”
A change in the school’s data management system in the summer term has meant that we have been without a parent portal. In the interim there has been a trial program of sending pupil reports via school email addresses. However, feedback from parents and carers has suggested that this is not always a user friendly process. Because of this we have brought forward the launch of our new parent portal which we are delighted to announce is now live. This can be accessed by clicking ‘Parents‘ at the top of this web page then ‘Parent Portal‘.
