Our reporters are putting the finishing touches to their news reports, frantically editing them down as the upload deadline approaches.
Our Year 8 reporters have already assembled in the Media Studio and have been discussing what stories they might like to cover today.
There are all sorts of ideas, from Chelsea’s Eden Hazard kicking a ball boy during a match, and a British grandmother sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug smuggling. We are currently watching our reports from December’s Practice News Day , evaluating what we did well, before deciding on today’s reports.

Marden High School recently took part in an ambitious project in association with the Children’s Commission’s Takeover Day initiative. Staff and students switched roles, and students had an exclusive insight into how the school is run; joining staff meetings, delivering lessons and taking part in other integral school decisions. It’s been a really successful BBC News Day, here’s some of the feedback from our fabulous Year 8 reporters:
“I have improved on my technical abilities, but I could improve it by managing my time better.” – Josh
“I have learned to work with different people who i don’t normally work with. To improve next time we will try to work quicker and work towards the deadline more prompt. but overall i had a great time working with laura and alicia!!! :)” – Kate
“I enjoyed working in my group and I developed new skills in Media and editing.” – Adam

“I think that I have have learned to improve my group work skills, also I have became more confident speaking-wise. But I do think we need to be more sensible so we don’t have to take as many shots.” – Theo

“I have had lots of fun and I’ve learnt tips about journalism I’ve have also improved my team work. I have also given a lot to think about over the Christmas season. I’m looking forward till next time.” – Alex
“I have planned what I was going to do in the day, and I completed what I had to do successfully, and I enjoyed it as much, possibly more than last time. Next time I would make sure I didn’t leave things to the last part of the day, so I’m not rushing!” – David
