Huge credit must also go to the Year 10 and Year 11 boys basketball team, after Mark Butcher’s dramatic last minute basket took us through to the County Championships at Churchill last night.

Well done to all involved for this sporting success!

Boys Football at the double!

11th November 2014J Ranson

YEAR 7: Marden High 3-4 Marden Bridge

YEAR 8: Marden High 4-2 Marden Bridge

There was another football double header last night as Marden Bridge Middle School brought both a Year 7 and Year 8 team to Hartington Road for two simultaneous matches as the night drew in.

For the Year 7s, it was a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat, despite taking the lead through a Josh Harrison goal after a superb solo run. They were soon 3-1 down, but Owen Kennedy reduced the arrears with his second of the season before Reece Maddison squared things up in the second half with a tidy finish from the edge of the box. Marden Bridge counter attacked well though, and managed to force a late winner over the line.

It was better news for the Year 8s, who shrugged off last week’s A team defeat to St. Thomas More with a 4-2 victory, helped by a few of the successful B team footballers stepping up to the plate. Jack Graham and Tom Moore got the goals in an enterprising 4-2 victory.

Other than floodlit away games, it looks like that’s the football season temporarily on hold until next term. Well done to all who turned out and took part.

Boys Football Double Header

10th November 2014J Ranson

A great double header of football took place on a cold night on Thursday, with both a Year 8 A team and B team travelling to St. Thomas More for simultaneous matches. Although the A team were soundly beaten 6-0, Year 8 B team won their game 1-0 thanks to a first half strike from Dan Mitchell. Well done to all who took part!

YR11 FOOTBALL: Marden 1 – 0 St. Thomas More

24th October 2014J Ranson

The U16 boys continued their impressive campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St. Thomas More at home on Thursday night, making it three wins out of three for the season.

Good work from Josh Thewlis forced the only goal in the first half, but they were made to sweat right until the end, with the away side hitting the woodwork and also having a late penalty expertly saved by Marden goalkeeper James Straughan (see clip below)

Congratulations to everyone who played their part.

Year 8 Rugby Success

17th October 2014J Ranson

Year 8 students took part in a Rugby Festival at Bullocksteads on Thursday evening, winning every game without conceding a single try. It was a great afternoon of sport from the lads who have really benefitted from their rugby training with Mr. Whitehouse and Mr. Richards during Lesson 6 every Wednesday evening.

Year 7 Boys Football

14th October 2014J Ranson

Marden 0 – 5 St. Thomas More

Yr7 Boys Football

The Year 7 boys kicked off their football campaign with a difficult match against a strong St. Thomas More side in windy conditions on Monday night, going down 0-5.

However, there was a spirited attitude throughout, and some positive moments, with two lung bursting runs from Jared Robson either side of half time resulting in right wing crosses that needed to be cleared from under the crossbar.

Josh Harrison also went close for the home side after captain Cameron Balloch sent him through, but his attempted lob was pushed away by the goalkeeper before being cleared off the line.

All in all, it was a tough lesson for the Under 12s, playing 9-a-side on a large pitch, and they face an equally hard battle against John Spence this Friday, but commitment to the cause and spirit cannot be faulted.

U16 Netball Success

13th October 2014J Ranson

Our U16 netball squad became joint winners with Whitley Bay High of the North Tyneside Championships on Wednesday. The final overall result had to be determined by goals scored. The players drew one match and won all the others on the night and the effort and commitment they showed as a team was highly commendable. Congratulations to all involved.
