Yr11 Boys make it two from two

13th October 2014J Ranson

The Year 11 Boys Football team made it two wins out of two with a 6-2 away victory against Churchill, following on from their impressive season opener against Seaton Burn. Alex Hardie particularly impressed with a solid performance in a holding midfield role.

It has been a much more difficult start for the Year 9 and 10 boys teams, with Year 10 following up their spirited defeat to George Stephenson with a 0-6 home reverse against local rivals John Spence.

Meanwhile, Mr. Prytherch’s Year 9s followed a tough 0-8 season opener away to Whitley High with a 0-9 defeat at home to St. Thomas More.

The Year 7 and Year 8 boys teams kick off their campaigns this week.

YEAR 9: Whitley Bay 8-0 Marden

YEAR 10: George Stephenson 3-0 Marden

A tough opening encounter for the Year 9 boys, who last week went down 8-0 away to Whitley Bay High School.

Meanwhile, the Year 10s put in a spirited performance away to George Stephenson but were ultimately defeated 3-0, unfortunately hitting the post twice and failing to convert a second half penalty kick.

Both teams have a quick opportunity to make amends, with Year 10 at home to John Spence this Wednesday, and the Year 9s have back-to-back home games against Norham and St. Thomas More next week.

MARDEN 5 – 3 SEATON BURN

Yr11 football vs Seaton Burn 22-09-14

The U16 boys got their season off to a winning start against last year’s cup finalists Seaton Burn with a solid 5-3 home victory. After going a goal behind early on, Marden took control of the game with Scott Payne equalising when one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Jack Pearson curled home a long range effort, and Payne added his second with a dipping cross that deceived the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

A penalty was then converted for the fourth after Scott Payne was fouled in the box and there was still time for another before half time, Joe Thompson tapping home from close range after Josh Thewlis’ shot came back off the post.

Seaton Burn got themselves back into it with two late strikes in the second half, but it didn’t take the gloss of an impressive performance to start their Year 11 campaign. Well done lads.

The following students took part in the Beach Rugby event on Tynemouth Longsands. Competing against schools from all over Northumberland and Durham – the event was organised by Laura Coleman, RUFC Girls coordinator, with the aim to develop participation in the sport.

Marden entered 2 teams in the Under 13 Tag event and 1 team in the Under 15 Touch.

Considering how little rugby the girls have played in comparison to the other schools, all of our teams played exceptionally well and made great progress throughout the day. Many thanks also to Jordan who assisted.

Marden Hockey Team Represents NUFC

30th June 2014Miss L Allison

Five Marden students travelled to Middlesborough on Sunday to represent Marden High and NUFC in a 5v5 hockey tournament and were a credit to themselves and their school.

Hockey Marden

Playing for an hour against Middlesbrough’s squad of 7 players, some of which represented the county, the girls were beaten but never gave up and gave 110%, not one of them moaned about the situation and just got on with it.

They all performed really well and the coach of the other team commented on how they should all be involved with a team as they have great potential.
