Boys Football teams enter National Competition

This term, both the Year 9 and Year 11 boys football teams will enter the English School’s Football Association national knock-out cup tournament, sponsored by Sony PlayStation. The U14s have a tough First Round draw at home to St. Thomas More Catholic School of Blaydon, to be played next Thursday 19th September, whilst the U16s have a bye to Round 2 where they will play the winners of Biddick School Sports College of Chester-le-street vs. St. Wilfrid’s RC School of South Tyneside.

Handing over keys

Following the hard work of Marden’s governors, the school has raised funds to buy a minibus to be used for trips, activities and sports events. Governors Don Charlton and Anne Carlile handed over the keys to Mr. Morris and Year 11 students Neve, Isaac and Tom.

Girls Beach Tag Rugby

Over 40 teams from all over the area took part in the Under 13 Girls Tag Rugby tournament on Tynemouth Longsands on Thursday,11th July 2013.
Both of the Marden teams played really well and won 3 of their 4 matches but unfortunately did not qualify for the Knock out stages. Matches played against were  – Churchill, George Stephenson, Norham, Whickham and Seaton Burn.

Year 7 & 8 Athletics Event

On Tuesday, 4th June 50 x Year 7 and 8 students attended the Tynemouth Schools Area Athletics trials at John Spence.  Schools taking part were:- John Spence, Kings, St.Thomas More Academy and Marden.  The trials are held to select a Tynemouth team to compete in the Inter Zone Event on Tuesday, 11th June at Monkton Stadium.
Well done to all those who competed and especially to those who came either first or second in their event as they will go forward to Monkton on Tuesday.

North Tyneside Athletics Trials

On Tuesday,14th May 2013 the North Tyneside Athletics trials were held at Monkton Stadium. Marden students competed very well in their events and several have been selected to compete in the County Championships at Gateshead Stadium on Saturday, 8th June.

Most successful on the day were:- Amy Hedworth 1st in the Junior Girls 1500m; Lewis Price 1st in the Inter Boys 100m/200m; Thomas Collins 1st in the Inter Boys Triple Jump.

The following students took part in the North Tyneside Under 16 Tennis Tournament at Prior’s Park, Tynemouth on Thursday, 2nd May 2013.

Three schools took part in the tournament, and both Marden couples came runners up in their separate competitions

Year 8 Girls Dodgeball

North Tyneside U13 Girls Dodgeball Tournament at Churchill College – Tuesday, 26th March.

Due to the high numbers of girls wanting to play dodgeball, Marden entered 3 teams into the competition. 12 teams took part – Marden A won their Section but were beaten by Valley Gardens in the Semis; B team were joint 2nd in their Section but did not qualify due to points difference and the C team finished 4th.

Year 9 Girls Hockey

In our final County League fixture of the season on Thursday 21st March, the U14 squad played really well and had most of the play in the first 15 minutes but a quick breakaway attack from Central resulted in them taking the lead before half time. In the second half, the team were soon back on equal terms with a goal from Amy Hedworth. Unfortunately, with only a few minutes to go, Central took the lead and although we kept pressing for the equaliser, the ball just would not go in. Final result 2-1 win to Central
