Year 7 Boys Football Result

4th February 2013J Ranson

Marden Bridge – 5 : 2 – Marden High

Match Report

On Friday 1st February, Mr. Prytherch took his Year 7 lads down the road to Marden Bridge Middle School, for a tough game on the full sized astroturf pitch.

After a strong opening fifteen minutes, the home side took the lead against the run of play with their first shot at goal, and suddenly Marden Bridge found the confidence to race into a 3-0 lead by half time.  A soft penalty made it 4-0 in the opening few minutes of the second half, before a change in formation allowed Marden to launch a comeback which saw wingers Ben McDermott and Lucas Sutherland pull goals back.

Alas, it wasn’t to be, and as we pressed for a winner, our rivals added another late on to seal a 5-2 victory, but it was a vast improvement on the opening two games for the Year 7s, who had previously lost both games, scoring just one and conceding twelve.

Well done to all in the squad for their effort.

Year 7 Rotary Club Football Tournament

10th December 2012J Ranson

GIRLS:

Congratulations to the Year 7 girls football teams for their excellent showing in the recent Rotary Club tournament in North Shields. Marden A topped their group, winning every game along the way before being cruelly knocked out on penalties in the semi-finals in true English football style. Marden B performed well in some thrilling, high scoring games and were just one point off best runner up and a place in the semis.

Top scorer was Carly Dixon with 8 goals

BOYS:

In the Boys 5-a-side event Marden A won 2 of their 5 games, narrowly missing out on progressing to the semi-finals and Marden B were handed a tough group, losing their first four games before recovering to earn a well deserved point against Wellfield.

Well done to all Year 7s involved.

Year 9 Boys Basketball Team Victorious

5th December 2012Mr C Whitehouse

The under 14 basketball team got off to a flying start in the league on Monday night, winning both of their games against Whitley Bay and Churchill High respectively.

Churchill were unable to reply top our first 24 points, shared between Mark Butcher, Callum Foxton, Michael Wood, Ross Alexander, Theo Riley (Year 8), James Grey, Adam Clayton, Lewis Rathmall (Year 8) and Kieron Mooney. They ran out comfortable 28-2 winners.

In Whitley Bay High, we faced the perennial North Tyneside victors at this level, going behind early on. Marden fought back well to level the scores, and in an end and end battle it came down to Marden being one point up with one minute left on the clock. Whitley went down court and with 30 seconds to go scored to go one point ahead. However, our never say die attitude enabled us to break left court with Theo Riley, who swooshed a jump shot from the 3-point line for a famous victory.

With these victories they will now represent North Tyneside in the Tyne and Wear Cup at U14 level. Well done boys!

The U16s will play Monkseaton and Whitley Bay on Wednesday 19th December as they look to emulate their Year 9 counterparts.

Year 11 Rugby

23rd November 2012Mr C Whitehouse

Match Report

KENTON HIGH – 0 : 27 – MARDEN HIGH

The year 11 rugby team won their first game of the season in convincing style on thursday night.

On a very heavy pitch at Rockliffe Rugby Club, they produced some free flowing rugby as well as some gritty tackling and rucking in order to overcome a strong Kenton High School team.

Tries by Nathan Marshall and Jamie Fenwick put us in a very strong position early on and relentless pressure enforced by captain Robbie Scott, Sam Jobson and man of the match Alex Purvis, as well as the rest of the team, ensured the lead was never.
We look forward to our next game-well done boys!
