On 13th July, Newcastle-based education charity Hand Of, pupils of North Tyneside Schools and Ex-Easter Island Head – a Liverpool-based experimental music ensemble – will present Coastal Explorations at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.
Alongside these pupils, Ex-Easter Island Head and GCSE music students have created an impressionistic exploration of the Northumbrian coast in sound; tracing a journey from Holy Island to Newcastle city centre by way of brass, voice, piano, electric guitar, percussion and other instruments in a ten piece ensemble.Hand Of is a charity that gives children and young people unique creative opportunities to work alongside professional artists, musicians, archivists, academics and more.
Their projects harness the arts, heritage and education sectors to create a cultural education, which allows children and young people to create artistic responses to their experiences and understanding of the places they call home.
Year 8s participated in a workshop yesterday from a local marine conservation project – The Wild Oyster project. Students discussed the reasons why we should look after our ocean and made pledges on what they could personally do to help the ocean.
Yr 8 have been learning about Respiration – in this practical we were investigating fermentation using yeast (a form of Anaerobic respiration).

How to safeguard your child online:
Over the past few months our Year 8 and Year 11 students have been working with the music group Ex Easter Island Head and the company Hand Of, building their own instruments and making their own music as part of a music, arts and heritage project.
The final performance will be taking place on the 13th July, 7:30pm at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.
We’d love for as many people as possible to join us for this music extravaganza. The tickets are bookable by clicking THIS LINK.

The live show will take place on Tuesday 28th June, with students encouraged to book their auditions through their form teacher or by e-mailing [email protected] by Friday 6th May.
Video submissions are also still welcomed this year, to show off as many talents as possible and to encourage students who wish to take part remotely.
Watch this space for more information and audition dates and times in the near future!
Thanks to everyone who joined in with the Easter bonnet making and had fun at our PTA Easter quiz!
