The Year 11 Prom took place at The Village Hotel on Wednesday, and a good time was had by all as we said goodbye to our fantastic Class of 2013…
In an exciting week in which the Marden kitchens were taken over by staff and student teams every morning last week, we can now reveal the results of all their hard work…
…Teams were awarded points by hungry students for taste, presentation and service; but it wasn’t just the students calling the shots. The kitchen staff also chipped in with marks for planning, organisation and cooking. There were also bonus points for extra portions dished out, and in a very high scoring week, the consistency of Mr Morris (with a little help from Food Technology teacher Mrs Rae) won through in the end, scoring an impressive 105 for their pork and apple burgers.
Year 6 students from Cullercoats Primary School have been at Marden all day enjoying lessons and getting to know the building. Here they are writing on the learning wall in the English department before setting off on a Marden Treasure Trail – Year 8 guides helped them with a Photography project, taking photos of different areas of the school.
This week, the Marden kitchen is being taken over by the students, as Year 7 and Year 8 students join forces with a different teacher every day to produce a unique new menu.
FRIDAY
For the final day of this week’s Food Takeover Challenge, our Bursar Mr. Hedworth and his team are already in the kitchen, preparing their heavily publicised pasta dish and cheesecake dessert…
For an exclusive video shown during a recent Year 8 English project, visit our Gallery page to find out “Who bumped off Mrs. Brolly?”
Year 8 have taken part in an ambitious and creative project, writing stories in the style of Arthur Conan Doyle. The English department produced a 2 minute murder mystery film in which they “killed off” head of department Mrs Brolly, revealing a list of teacher suspects and their sinister motives.
All Year 8 sets then had to come up with their own original stories, written in the style of a Sherlock Holmes investigation, in which they wrote about their theories as to who “bumped off Brolly”.
Students speculated for weeks before being shown the final reveal in an updated video. Everyone agreed it was an exciting and original module; the students really responded to the interactive approach from the members of staff and they produced some superb pieces of written work. Watch the full video, including the students’ creative speculation, below…
