MARDEN – 2 : 0 – WELLFIELD

A close game for the U13s saw Marden run out narrow 2-0 winners against Wellfield Middle School and make it two wins out of two for the season.

The deadlock was broken just before half time when Luke Monaghan won a free kick on the edge of the Wellfield area. Confident after his 4-goal performance last week against St. Thomas More, Monaghan stepped up to take it and his free kick was goalbound before hitting team-mate Will Kelly on the back. Kelly made amends though and tapped home once the rebound reached him in the 6-yard box to give the hosts a slim advantage at half time. (more…)

Match Report

ST. THOMAS MORE – 5 : 7 – MARDEN

The Year 8 boys began their season in superb style with a thrilling 7-5 win away to league champions St. Thomas More in a topsy turvy twelve goal thriller.

There were chances for both sides in an entertaining half, with Tommy More hitting both the post and bar, and Marden’s Luke Monaghan hitting the inside of the post when clean through. Despite taking an early lead through a Theo Riley goal, Marden trailed 4-1 at half time to a team that had beaten them 5-2 in last year’s league encounter, but some tactical changes and a double substitution changed the game on its head. Match Report

LONGBENTON – P : P – MARDEN

Mr. Topping got his Year 9 team up and running without kicking a ball on Wednesday 19th, as a late cancellation from Longbenton meant they forfeited the game 3-0 and Marden picked up their first three points of the season in the Under 14 Ron Kitching League.

Mr. Topping said he was “happy to take the win, but the lads were all looking forward to playing a proper game.” Hopefully, their season will kick-start with more fixture announcements coming soon.

Marden at 50: A Day in the Life

This year Marden celebrated its 50th anniversary. On the 2nd of May this year, this short video was made to show a typical school day for the staff and students. It was first shown at the Photography Exhibition that was part of Marden’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on the 8th of July.
