roald-dahl-100-quiz

Tuesday 13 September marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl, and here at Marden we are celebrating that with themed posters and activities round school, as well as having a dedicated English lesson to his work for all year groups.

Here, some of our teachers read passages from their favourite books:

What is your favourite Dahl book? For more information follow this link and learn more about the fizz-whizzing literary career of one of our most celebrated children’s authors.

Awesome GCSE Results!

By J Ranson25th August 2016

Marden High School is celebrating another set of fantastic GCSE results this summer. They are amongst the best results the school has ever achieved with 78% of students achieving A* – C passes in both English and Maths.

This year 85% of students achieved A* – C in English, and 82% in Mathematics. We have seen great success in many areas, notably 100% of students who studied GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Further Maths, German and Russian gained A* – C grades.

Josh is about to start an IT apprenticeship.
Christopher (right) made SIX levels of progress!

Joan Bloomfield, Acting Headteacher, said ‘Congratulations to all year 11 students. They have done incredibly well. A number of students have gained A/A* grades in all of their subjects which is a fantastic achievement. Every subject has performed magnificently.’

‘These fantastic results mean a huge amount for our pupils and their parents, the staff who have worked tirelessly to support them and the school community as a whole’.

Laura (left) received an A^ and 10 A* grades. Rebecca (right) received 10 A* grades and one A. Well done!

We look forward to welcoming you all to Prize Giving in November which will be held in the auditorium of our brand new school.

Marden High School: Old and New

By J Ranson19th July 2016

Inspired by some former pupils at our open day, pupils coming to Marden in September photographed lots of interesting details of our current school during a Transition lesson.

Each group had a specific area of the school to focus on and photographed: walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings.

Rewards at Marden

By J Ranson15th July 2016

It’s been rewards week here at Marden, with students choosing from a variety of activities to take part in after cashing in their hard earned merits. Here’s some footage of a kick boxing session ran by Burns School of Blackbelts.

There was also an archery session on Thursday morning:

Microbits have arrived!

11th July 2016J Ranson

micro-bit-logo

We have just taken delivery of over 130 Microbits……they are for the current year 7 students who are going into year 8.

They will be used during the first term of year 8 and then the students can take them home. They will be used in the classroom and hopefully as part of a Super Learning Day.
Microbit
You can use your BBC micro:bit for all sorts of cool creations, from robots to musical instruments – the possibilities are endless. The micro:bit is a handheld, fully programmable computer. It’s 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original BBC Micro computers used in schools in the early 1980s.
This little device has an awful lot of features, like 25 red LED lights that can flash messages. There are two programmable buttons that can be used to control games or pause and skip songs on a playlist. Your BBC micro:bit can detect motion and tell you which direction you’re heading in, and it can use a low energy Bluetooth connection to interact with other devices and the Internet – clever!

By J Ranson7th July 2016

On Tuesday the PE department took a group of students from years 7, 8 and 9 to Longsands beach where we competed in the North East Girls Beach Touch Rugby festival.

Marden had two teams entered into the U13 round and one U15 team. All girls thoroughly enjoyed the day. We had a range of wins, losses and draws! Looking forward to starting contact in September.
