YEAR 8 FOOTBALL
Monseaton Middle School 0 – 7 Marden High
The U13 boys football team notched their fourth win in a row, smashing seven past Monkseaton Middle School and confirming their qualification for the play-off semi finals.
They took the lead in the first minute when Josh Harrison’s right wing crossed was turned in for an own goal. The second arrived soon after from the penalty spot when Connor Brown was brought down, Peter Whitehouse confidently dispatching the spot kick.
Marden kept up the pressure, winning a succession of corners, and it was 3-0 by half time when a dangerous set piece wasn’t cleared and Connor Brown volleyed home with a neat finish.
A fourth was added early in the second half when Josh Harrison beat the offside trap to slot under the impressive Monkseaton goalkeeper, who pulled off a string of good saves to keep the score down. The away team’s quality however was confirmed by a late flurry of goals, defender Cameron Balloch heading home at the back post from another corner for the fifth.
Second half substitute Jaden Bell impressed in a right wing role when he came on, and added two late goals, the first when good footwork from Peter Whitehouse resulted in the loose ball falling in his path. The seventh and final goal came from a deep Connor Brown cross from the left, Jaden pouncing to slot home.
The game marked a remarkable turnaround for the Year 8 team, who have finished in second place in their league after six games, despite losing the first two games of the season last term. They have a cup quarter final against George Stephenson coming up on Thursday. Well done all who took part.
