Year 10 Visit St. James’ Park

By J Ranson4th April 2017
ZZZ east stand

This year, a group of Year 10 students have been working with Newcastle United Foundation as part of an ASDAN course.

The Enterprise Academy teaches 11 to 19 year-olds the basic principles of business and self-employment using Newcastle United Football Club as a real life case study. The programme helps students understand jobs, professions and career options and delivers programmes that are innovative and fun.

On Friday, as part of this course, the students visited St. James’ Park, took in a stadium tour and had a lesson in an executive suite overlooking the pitch. Here are some photos from the day:

Students Meet Author

By Miss E Laing7th March 2017
On Tuesday, Year 7 and 8 students took a trip to Whitley Bay Library to listen to a presentation by author and adventurer Matt Dickinson. Some students bought copies of his novels, and had the opportunity for these to be signed. A copy of these can be found in the LRC.
Matt Dickinson with KS3 readers
Students learned of Matt’s adventures and exciting action-packed career as an award-winning Director and Cameraman for National Geographic TV and the Discovery Channel, which saw him film on Everest’s summit (the first British filmmaker to do so and come back alive), in Antarctica, Greenland, Alaska and on top of the highest live volcano in
the world.
The boys were so inspired by Matt’s stories trip that they also produced some creative writing pieces imagining what it might be like to be an explorer themselves. Look out for these in this half term’s newsletter…
