Year 8 Rugby Success

Last week, our Year 8 boys rugby team entered a sixteen team 7-a-side tournament at Gosforth RFC. After playing group and knockout stages we managed to get to the final where we narrowly lost out to the private school, Dame Allen’s.

Well done boys. A superb effort!

Meanwhile, next time, our rugby team will take on their opponents in brand new kit, after kit suppliers Canterbury delivered the new kit which was designed by Marden students before Christmas.
In October, four students spent the day at Kingston Park, home of the Newcastle Falcons, working with kit manufacturers Canterbury and came up with a design that the students have modelled below.

Care For Calais

During half term, Ms Griffiths is travelling to Calais to volunteer for the charity, Care4Calais, supporting displaced refugees who are currently destitute in France. This week Marden students have been designing postcards to lift their spirits, adorned with colour and messages of hope and support.

Science Live!

Yesterday, a group of Year 10 students visited Leeds Town Hall for a Science Live event. There they had the chance to see and hear five of Britain’s top scientists, all working at the cutting edge of their specialisms.

The aim of the trip was to help improve GCSE Science results with top tips on examination success from an experienced science examiner and show students that Science really does offer solutions for many of the world’s great problems.

In a fast-moving, exciting, thought-provoking event, the students had the chance to raise issues with the scientists. with the primary objective to generate greater enthusiasm for science amongst GCSE pupils.

Well done for the exceptional behaviour of all students who went on the trip!

Ski Trip – Important Information

With our Year 10 and 11 ski trip to Alpendorf in Austria just a week away, we would like to share some important information to students, parents and carers regarding the trip and travel arrangements.

The following information from our travel company is also being sent home in a letter, but if you would like to discuss anything in person, staff will be available in school at 5.00pm on Tuesday 12 February.
