All Year 7 students on Thursday took part in a Super Learning Day based on a theme of flight. They spent the morning studying adaptations of birds of prey courtesy of some interesting visitors from Kielder Birds of Prey Centre. The afternoon was spent doing Science, Technology and Maths activities such as building and testing helicopters and rockets. Everyone had a great day.
If you’re a prospective parent/carer thinking about the future for your child, here are some important upcoming dates for the 2018/19 academic year. Perhaps you’ve visited before and want to come for another look around? All are welcome, just contact the school for more information.
Tuesday evening saw our regular summer talent show festival, Marden’s Got Talent!
This was a superb event with a great variety of acts. Congratulations to Tilly (Year 8) who won the competition singing an original version of ‘Sweet Child of Mine’.
Well done to all who took part!
The Real Schools Guide, published this week, ranks Marden High as the best school in North Tyneside and as number 5 in the whole of the North East region. This guide takes into account a wide range of indicators to evaluate a school’s performance. It tracks achievement, attendance, teaching, how well the school is preparing pupils for the future and whether it is improving. The fact that we have done so well is a great accolade to the efforts of our whole school community of students, staff, parents and carers, and governors. This is an achievement we can all be very proud of, whilst at the same time we remember that there is still more we can do to improve our children’s education even further.
Congratulations to the U12 Rounders team who won the North Tyneside tournament. The team remained undefeated throughout the competition. Well done to all the players who took part.
Last Wednesday, ten of our intrepid Year 9 students enjoyed the culmination of their Creative Writing projects for This Is Creative Enterprises (TICE).
This year, TICE has seen 161 young people realise potential, grow in confidence and be celebrated for their achievements – 16 schools throughout the North East region took part, and ten Marden students graduated from the Creative Writing Programme.
All year the Year 9s have been working with professionals from the creative, design and digital sectors, taking part in three different programme stages; Insight, Explore and Create. This was showcased on the evening of the Final Show as they received certificates and saw their work displayed at Newcastle University.
On the night, Marden student Olivia Peterson delivered a superb speech about the project to a packed audience of more than 450. Well done to everyone who took part!
Congratulations to this week’s winners of Work of the Week!
