It’s time for an update on our World War 1 project.
Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, year 7 and 8 history detectives have been hard at work commemorating the outbreak of WW1. There are 16 of them now and each one has adopted a serviceman from the roll of honour on the Cullercoats war memorial. We’ve spent the last couple of months researching the men’s lives. We even met some of the relatives at our community memory day at St George’s Church Hall. We’ve visited some of their houses on a walk around Cullercoats village and we’ve accessed the amazing Tynemouth World War One archive with the help of researcher, Marie Caffrey.
Please read this letter from our contractors McAlpine about a forthcoming public consultation meeting to discuss plans for Marden’s new building.
FINAL GUIDED CHOICES SUBJECT SELECTION
To all parents and Carers of Year 9 students, this important letter outlines details of our forthcoming parents’ evening and consultation day to make a final subject selection for guided choices in Key Stage 4.
These letters have been sent out to all Yr 9 parents; please return the reply slips at the bottom of the letter stating your preferred appointment time.
For those Year 11 parents who missed our briefing evening, we have made the slides available here for you.
Repeat consent forms are being sent home with those pupils in year 11 who have not had the Meningitis C booster vaccination. This is following very poor take up of the vaccination in our school.
Meningitis is inflammation of the lining of the brain and can be the result of infection with a virus, bacteria or other disease-causing organism, or as a result of injury. As well as meningitis, meningococcal infection can lead to septicaemia (blood poisoning), which can be serious, especially if not diagnosed early and can lead to death.
We would appreciate your help in encouraging year 11 pupils who have not had the vaccination to return these forms to the School Office by Monday 12 January.
Many thanks
On Thursday 11th December we are having a festive Christmas jumper day, raising money for both Age UK and Cash for Kids. For more information on the Cash For Kids appeal, please watch this video.
