VEX Robotics Tipping Point Competition

Thanks to some funding from the Reece Foundation, Elliot, Tom and Billy in year 9 had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the regional qualifiers for the VEX Robotics Tipping Point competition.

There were 16 teams from all over the North East taking part in the event held at the Nissan Sports and Leisure Complex.

After a long day of driver skills, autonomous programming and team games and tactics, they ended up winners with their alliance team and earned their place in the national finals in Telford next month.  Elliot also won an award for best driver after some tense competition in the individual challenges.

Today, Marden students have been dedicated a page in The Chronicle, as part of their ‘Our School’ section.

Year 9 students wrote articles about their response to the current global conflict, their recent experience of blended learning, the Marden Green team’s ongoing gardening project and our upcoming musical performance of Sister Act!

North Shields Heritologists – Mary Ann Macham’s Story

The North Shields Heritologists have been working with a group of Year 9 History students to create an animation about Mary Ann Macham, an escaped slave who found her way from Virginia, USA and arrived in North Shields on Christmas Day 1831.

Yesterday they presented certificates to the students. If you haven’t already seen their stop-motion animation, here it is:

Funded by Historic England, Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to Writer Sue Miller and Animator Katy Hackers for their help with this project.

This is Creative Enterprise

Yesterday, Year 9 took part in TICE (This is Creative Enterprise), a brilliant opportunity for students to explore in full the scope the careers that exist within the commercial creative industries.

They developed their skills and career awareness with a textile session, learning about every aspect of the industry, from product research and funding, right through to producing their own products at the end of the day, using a variety of materials.
