During first lesson this morning, Marden was plunged into semi-darkness as we witnessed the first solar eclipse in our region since 1999. It became notably darker and colder, as we set up a live web feed to cover the eclipse. Here’s some time lapse footage of the moon passing in front of the sun.

The ICT department recently took some students to the first ever CodeWars event in Newcastle, a three hour competition all about Coding. For more information on the event and to see some of our students in action, watch this video.

Every Tuesday during period 4 is dedicated PSCHE time at Marden. Today was PSCHE with a difference, with a whole host of activities and events on offer. There were numerous talks, events, special lessons and revision sessions all around the school.

Marden students from Year 10 have recently been working with students from Excelsior Academy on a project about home and asylum, as part of our ongoing link with BBC News School Report. Today BBC Radio 3 have been interviewing the students about their experiences.

Marden English team in their World Book Day fancy dress
It has been World Book Day here at Marden. Year 7 students and staff have dressed up as famous literary characters all day for a special Super Learning Day, taking part in a carousel of lessons to promote reading and discuss the importance of reading both at school and in everyday life.
