£925 raised for Children in Need. Well done!
The school bell rang twice this morning at 11am, and Year 10 students Calum and Benny played bugles in the school’s reception to mark Remembrance Day as the rest of the school paid their respects with a two minute silence.

As Year 11 Isaac Sidney steps down after a year as Young Mayor of North Tyneside, Year 9 student Rebecca Moore has the opportunity to take over and make it a second consecutive Young Mayor from Marden High School. She is down to the last four candidates for the position, so make sure you vote for Rebecca when the polls open between the 18th and 20th of November. Here is her campaign video:

Cold North Sea
There’s a cold east wind a blowin’
We’re Rollin down theTyne.
Rollin’ to the Cold North Sea.
Tides a turnin’,must be goin’,
We’re rollin’ down the Tyne.
Rollin’ to the Cold north Sea.
Pots are weighted, lines are baited.
We’re Rollin down theTyne.
Rollin’ to the Cold North Sea.
Water’s right, the fish are waitin’,
We’re Rollin down theTyne
Rollin’ to the Cold North Sea.
The shipyard cranes are swinging,
We’re rolling down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
Steel and hammers ringing,
We’re rolling down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
Submarines, Destroyers.
We’re rolling down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea
Oil rigs and wind farms,
We’re rolling down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
Keel boats down from Dunston,
We’re rolling down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
Vanished into history, never to return.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
The old trades have all perished,
We’re rolling down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
Now the ferries and the tourists
They’re rollin’ down the Tyne.
Rolling to the cold North Sea.
It has been a fantastic adventure in New York City, but the 37 students and 8 members of staff which accompanied them are now all home safe and sound, after a jam-packed last day in the Big Apple.
In the morning we split up into small groups, with some going to the fantastic Museum of Modern Art…
…and some going to the awe-inspiring Natural History Museum, where Mrs Brolly made a new friend…
Another group went up the Empire State Building on a misty morning, whilst the rest did what we did best, and went shopping on 5th Avenue!
By lunchtime we all met up again and experienced our first bit of rain of the trip, but it did not dampen spirits, and the autumn leaves of Central Park looked impressive as a few students took in the John Lennon memorial at Strawberry Fields and the Dakota Building whilst others…shopped, obviously.
It was soon time to get our bags and cases onto the coach from the hotel, and start a long journey back, but everyone is unanimous that they had an awesome time in the city that never sleeps. So long New York!
Here’s what the kids thought, tweeting on our popular NYC Twitter feed:
@MardenNYC CapCrew™ you will be missed!
@MardenNYC best week of my life thank you for everything that we have done copper the past few days
@MardenNYC deffo !!! thanks to everyone had a great time

It was another awesome day in New York yesterday for the staff and students of Marden High, taking in the sights of the immense skyscrapers around us as we began with a stroll to Rockefeller Plaza, off 5th Avenue. There we took in a tour and travelled up 70 floors to the observation deck at the Top of the Rock, taking in the views of the immense Manhattan city skyline.
We took a bit of time walking around Rockefeller Plaza and the surrounding shops before getting the Subway to 14th Street and visiting the iconic Chelsea Market for lunch, where preparations are in order for tonight’s Halloween parade. We then walked the High Line to Macy’s and did some more shopping.
The day was then rounded off by an evening meal at the Hard Rock Cafe before an evening show – Matilda at the Shubert Theatre, just down the street from our hotel on 44th.
Today’s plan is to visit Central Park, the surrounding shops, buildings and museums and then we fly home late tonight.

Our first full proper day in New York was jam packed, as we caught the subway early to get on the ferry to Liberty island and see the big lady herself…
There was then time for reflection, as we walked to the location of Ground Zero and took in the 9/11 memorial park in the shadow of World Trade Center 1, where two large fountains stand in the footprints of the twin towers. This commemorates the nearly 3000 people who lost their lives on 11th September 2001.
A walk down Wall Street through the financial district then took us to South Street Sea Port, where we had lunch and looked around Pier 17, an area that was devastated exactly one year ago today by Hurricane Sandy. We then returned to Times Square for a small round of shopping…
…before an early evening meal in Bubba Gumps, the Media students taking particular interest in this ‘Forrest Gump’ themed restaurant.
Then, as if that were not enough for the day, we took a bus tour around New York, stopping off on our way to see the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and Grand Central Terminal as well as getting out at Brooklyn and looking back across at the majestic Manhattan skyline at night.
This morning we are off to sample the wonderful views from the top of the Rock, the Rockefeller building off 5th Avenue.
