Our 2014 first entry figure for the proportion of year 11 leavers gaining 5 or more A*-C grades including English and maths has risen from 75 to 77% .
You might be interested to learn that Marden is going to play a full part in the commemoration of the World War 1 centenary. As you probably know, Marden has long enjoyed a close relationship with St. George’s Church in Cullercoats. Indeed, I guess that we’ve been working together for over 50 years. Some time ago, I mentioned to Father Adrian Hughes that I was thinking of ways in which school could mark the Great War centenary and he told me that the plaque listing the fallen on the St. George’s war memorial had been stolen. Well, that got us thinking and soon we started coming up with ideas for ways in which we could ensure a renewed commemoration of those Cullercoats men listed on the stolen memorial. One thing led to another and, with the help of an amazing local history group called Tynemouth World War One as well as Sarah Owen from North Tyneside Council, we put together a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a community history project.
As you probably know, North Tyneside Council has been working with its schools, colleges and partners to review education in the borough.
Today (Monday, 22 September) sees the start of a four-week consultation on three options that have been put forward for securing the future of education in the borough.

It’s a tough decision. The days of automatically going to the secondary school in your locality are long gone. For years now, you’ve been able to choose any school you like – it doesn’t even have to be in your own local authority, let alone catchment area. Parental choice trumps everything and, if the school of your first choice has places, you can’t be turned away, no matter where it is.
At Marden, we’ve been aware of that for a long time and we’re glad to admit pupils from all over North Tyneside. In fact, for the first time this year, we’ve started admitting from Northumberland.
Not that free choice makes it easier for parents to decide. With so many schools available (and the secondary schools in North Tyneside are excellent), parents need to do their homework to make exactly the right choice for their child. Your decision can have a life changing effect on your children, so you’ve got to get it right.
There will be a period 6 on Wednesdays for anyone who wants to take part in additional sporting opportunities. Sessions will be available from this week (Wednesday 17th) and will cover the following:
