Digital Kitchen Event
10 Students from the Polyglot (Many Languages) Club had the opportunity to attend a European language learning project called LanCook. They took part in a series of language learning exercises by following recipes and working in a digital kitchen. After having a test run in English, making scones, the students followed instructions in Italian to make ‘involtini alla contadina’, using kitchen equipment linked up with sensors. The digital kitchen functions in a similar way to the Nintendo Wii, giving instructions and monitoring progress. The best way to monitor progress in this case was in the tasting. You can find out more about Lancook on the university’s website.

Assistant Headteacher, Alison Abbott, on what it was like to speak to the nation live on BBC Breakfast:

The producers organised all travel and accommodation. All I had to do was be there at 7.20 am. Oh, and explain what mindfulness means to us and our students in front of 8 million viewers…
