FINAL GUIDED CHOICES SUBJECT SELECTION
To all parents and Carers of Year 9 students, this important letter outlines details of our forthcoming parents’ evening and consultation day to make a final subject selection for guided choices in Key Stage 4.
These letters have been sent out to all Yr 9 parents; please return the reply slips at the bottom of the letter stating your preferred appointment time.
For those Year 11 parents who missed our briefing evening, we have made the slides available here for you.
You might know from press reports that all schools have been instructed by the government to ensure that they teach the British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
This requirement has never before been made so explicit to schools. Consequently, we have for the first time agreed a policy for our teaching of British values. You will find this in Policies in the About Us section of our home page.
Clearly, this government measure arises from matters of national and international concern. If there are any aspects of our policy which you would like to discuss, please contact Jonathan Morris, Headteacher on [email protected] or telephone the school switchboard on 0191 2006357.
After a recent moderation visit by the Healthy Schools steering group, Marden High has been awarded a certificate for our impressive work to promote the health and wellbeing of our pupils!
Repeat consent forms are being sent home with those pupils in year 11 who have not had the Meningitis C booster vaccination. This is following very poor take up of the vaccination in our school.
Meningitis is inflammation of the lining of the brain and can be the result of infection with a virus, bacteria or other disease-causing organism, or as a result of injury. As well as meningitis, meningococcal infection can lead to septicaemia (blood poisoning), which can be serious, especially if not diagnosed early and can lead to death.
We would appreciate your help in encouraging year 11 pupils who have not had the vaccination to return these forms to the School Office by Monday 12 January.
Many thanks
As we enter the Spring term, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year from Marden High School.
Four Marden students, who are Dance City performers, brought in the new year with style, Year 7s Hannah Yeoman and Hannah Warne, and Year 8s Sarah Cross and Charlotte Penfold all took part in Newcastle’s New Year’s Eve parade, welcoming in 2015 with a Rugby theme.
Huge congratulations to Year 10 student Rebecca Moore, who won the Young Voice Award at the PoSBO (Postive Social Behaviour Order) Awards 2014. Rebecca, who is already a representative of the North Tyneside Youth Parliament was recognised for her work as a Member of Youth Parliament, helping to raise awareness of mental health issues and leading a group of young people who developed mental health education packs for schools.
