Year 10 student Theo Riley and his older brother Josiah, a Marden Class of 2014 alumnus, attended Middlesbrough FC’s Riverside Stadium last night for the MFC Foundation annual Regional Awards.
The lads won the Team Achievement Award, along with their three teammates, following last year’s success in a National 3 by 3 basketball tournament, which you can read about in our archive HERE.
An artist’s impression of the proposed new building for Marden High School
We are delighted to announce that we have received final government confirmation of funding for a brand new school building.
This means that Marden High School will be rebuilt and transformed into a state of the art place of learning fit for a 21st century curriculum. We expect it to be open for business in the academic year of 2016-17.
Year 10 student Rebecca Moore, who is also a representative of the North Tyneside Youth Parliament, spoke passionately at the House of Commons. Well done Rebecca!
On Friday 7th November, Marden’s History detectives spent the day at St. George’s Church Hall in Cullercoats, interviewing members of the public to gather more research for their World War One Commemoration Project. This short video shows a flavour of the day.
Friday was a busy day at Marden High, and we had a non-uniform day to raise money for Children In Need, with students dressing as super heroes. The bake sale and other fundraising activities raised more than £800! Well done!
There’s an exciting STEM project taking place in our STEM hub, featuring some great collaborative work between both Marden High and John Spence students.
On Tuesday at 11am, Marden paid tribute to the fallen soldiers of all conflicts since the start of World War One.
Year 11 students Benny and Calum played The Last Post, and a live webcam was set up in reception so that the rest of the school could reflect and pay their tributes on Armistice Day, as seen in this video.

Marden High School will be closed to students on Friday 28th November 2014 for a Staff Training Day. School will reopen as normal on Monday 1st December.

The last time we spoke, I told you that we were organising a World War 1 Community Memory Day at St. George’s Church Hall.
Well, it happened last Friday and fittingly proved to be a very memorable event. You might recall that I said that I wanted to recruit some student history detectives to research the lives of the Cullercoats fallen as listed on the memorial outside St. George’s Church. So far, I’ve enlisted 13 year 7-8 volunteers, each of whom has adopted a servicemen from the roll of honour. It was their job to host the event by interviewing our guests about their family histories with regard to the Great War. We had a constant stream of visitors who dropped in to support our project, including at least four relatives of men on the list.
